Search for missing jet MH370: Satellite finds 122 'potential' objects at sea

Malaysia said satellite images taken in recent days showed "122 potential objects" in the remote southern Indian Ocean, a discovery likely to energise an international effort to recover suspected debris from the missing plane that has been frustrated by stormy weather. Meanwhile, US lawyers fired the first salvo in an expected barrage of lawsuits on behalf of grieving families.

Congress pledges to push economic growth rate, create 10 crore jobs

In its manifesto for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party pledged to push the economic growth rate to 8% over the next three years, take firm steps to tame inflation, create 10 crore jobs and include 800 million people in the middle-class, among other promises. Addressing the press attending the party's manifesto release, Rahul Gandhi said his opposition to the BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi is not about an individual but the ideology he represents.

AK 47, AK Antony and AK49: Narendra Modi and Arvind Kejriwal in a war of words

In his first ever direct attack on Kejriwal BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi said, "there are three AKs in Pakistan who are being admired. AK 47, AK Antony and AK49. This third one, AK 49, has just launched a political party," while addressing a gathering of BJP supporters at Hiranagar, close to the India-Pakistan International Border, in Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha constituency. The "AK 49" was a reference to Kejriwal's stint as the Delhi's chief minister for 49 days. His remarks came a day after the AAP leader said he will contest the general elections from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

Supreme Court turns down plea for CBI, SIT probe into Muzaffarnagar riots

The top court put the Akhilesh Yadav government in the dock for the Muzaffarnagar communal riots and turned down a plea for a CBI or court-monitored probe "at this juncture" into the violence that left nearly 60 persons dead and more than 40,000 homeless. "We prima facie hold state government responsible for negligence in preventing communal violence in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas," the SC said.

Sensex, Nifty hit fresh record high on capital inflow

The BSE benchmark index Sensex on Wednesday climbed to all-time high of 22,095.30 points by gaining 40 points on sustained buying by foreign funds in bluechips on improving growth outlook amid a firming global trend. The National Stock Exchange's broad-based index Nifty also closed at record high of 6,601.40 points, up by 11.65 points over the last close.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar replies to Election Commission notice on 'ink' remark

Union Agriculture Minister and NCP chief Sharad Pawar sent his clarification to the Election Commission of India on his "double voting" remarks which had created a furore. "The clarification has been sent and we are confident that appropriate decision will be taken," he said. Pawar had on Sunday asked those attending his address to take advantage of the multi-phase polling in the state by voting twice, first at their hometowns and then at places of work.

Supreme Court grants conditional bail to Sahara chief Subrata Roy

The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to release on bail the head of the Sahara conglomerate, Subrata Roy, after setting certain conditions. The apex court bench of Justice KS Radhakrishnan and Justice JS Khehar said that of the Rs 10,000 crore, Rs 5,000 crore would be deposited in cash, and the balance Rs 5,000 crore will be furnished through a bank guarantee.

Two CNN journalists arrested trying to sneak into World Trade Center

Yon Pomrenze, 35, and Connor Fieldman Boals, 26, were arrested for trying to sneak past security at the World Trade Center in New York City in an attempt to report on recent security lapses at the site, according to the police. The two CNN journalists first tried to talk their way in through the main gate to the center in lower Manhattan, much of which is still a construction site, according to the police account.

Candy Crush maker King Digital raises $500mn in Wall Street debut

King Digital Entertainment raised a sweet half-billion dollars on Wall Street, and now it is time for the market to show its taste for the makers of mobile game Candy Crush. The British game developer priced its initial public offering at $22.50 per share on the eve of the sart of public trading Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange. King will trade under the ticker "KING" with an opening market valuation of $7.1 billion.
