Neeraj Parashar (32) ICICI Bank location head, Bhopal & participant, Star Vivaah, who found his life partner on the match-making TV show

I had little time to socialise and find a match for myself. And at 32, I was not getting any younger. So I registered with shaadi.com. Early this year, when the portal proposed that I participate in a programme where they would telecast profiles of prospective brides and grooms, I agreed.

First, I had to answer an exhaustive questionnaire with 120 questions. Then the TV crew shot me for two days, documenting my daily routine. Next, they interviewed my parents and me at length about what we were looking for in a bride-to-be.

Finally, my profile was telecast on June 3, 2009.

I was married on June 19.

It worked faster than I ever thought it would.

I got 1,700 responses from all over the country as well as from NRIs in the USA, UK and other countries. My parents and I finally decided on Swechha Shukla because she and her family have values very similar to ours.

She is a media professional working in Bhopal and we even shared the same PIN code, though we had never met before.

I think what worked for us is that we were absolutely honest about what we were looking for — even if it is not politically correct to say you are looking for a Brahmin who is also a manglik. I was not there to win a popularity poll, I was there to get a suitable life partner.

If you have the parameters clear in your mind and you have a bulk database to choose from, finding a life partner becomes easier.
