Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti (SASS) observed the fifth Shaheedi Diwas of martyrs of the Amarnath land row agitation of 2008 at Geeta Bhawan on Sunday.

The programme started with a 'havan yagya', which was attended by members of the core committee of the samiti and the families of the martyrs.

Bishnah MLA Ashwani Sharma was chief guest and Mahant Rameshwar Dass of Purani Mandi was the guest of honour on the occasion.

RSS Prant Sanghchalak Brig Suchet Singh (retd) presided over the function after the welcome address by Pawan Kohli, convener of the samiti. A documentary film reminiscing important events of the two-month long agitation was also screened.

Kohli gave the detailed account of the agitation and recalled the agreement reached between the Samiti and government.

"Since the agreement has not been implemented in toto, we warn the government that the issue will again be taken to public and a fresh agitation will be launched for which the government will be solely responsible," he added.

Ashwani Sharma said if the "discriminating" attitude of government towards Jammu did not stop, the people may be forced to re-launch a stir like 2008.

Mementos were presented to the families of martyrs on the occasion.
