Maruti Udyog Ltd. (MUL) maintained its leading position by posting a net profit of Rs 367.44 crore in the second quarter of the current financial year, an increase of 39.89 per cent over Rs 262.66 crore during the corresponding period in the last financial year.
The company’s profit before tax stood at Rs 534.63 crore in Q2 of 2006-07, a growth of 38.41 per cent.
MUL registered a total income of Rs 3,540.89 crore (net of excise) between July and September, a growth of 12.2 per cent over Rs 3,146.87 crore in the corresponding period last year.
With this, net profit of the company in the first half of the year (April-September) stood at Rs 737.01 crore compared to Rs 489.12 crore in the same period last year, registering an increase of 50.68 per cent. Total income for the first half stood at Rs 6,809.66 crore, a growth of 16 per cent over April-September 2005, when it was Rs 5870.54 crore.
Maruti’s sales during the second quarter grew 16.2 per cent to touch 1,57,683 units, including 8,165 units of export. The company had sold 1,40,543 units in the second quarter last financial year.
In the first half of the year, Maruti’s sales grew by 18 per cent in the domestic car market.
