Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev is to nominate deputy premier Karim Masimov as new prime minister, sources in parliament said on Tuesday.
"Tomorrow the president will name him (Masimov)," one lawmaker said. Another legislator said his party had approved Nazarbayev's proposal.
Kazakh Prime Minister Danial Akhmetov resigned unexpectedly on Monday. Parliament must approve the president's nominee for his replacement.
