Masood Azhar for Afzal Guru. That was the Congress’s reply on Friday to the BJP advertisement charging the former of being soft on terrorism.

The Congress has highlighted that it was the BJP’s foreign minister who had accompanied terrorist Masood Azhar to Afghanistan to release him. A day before, the saffron party had published ads saying the Congress has not hanged the culprit of the 2001 Parliament attack, Afzal Guru.

Congress’s quarter-page ad in local newspapers has a bold heading saying “remember that black day” along side a photo of Azhar.

It gives another example: “When Advani bowed at the tomb of Mohammad Ali Jinnah in Pakistan and the BJP government publication, too, praised Jinnah profusely.”

It also talks of the BJP’s negligence to Pakistan infiltration into Kargil and the attacks on Parliament and Red Fort. “Who betrayed the nation on the matter of nation’s security?” asks the last line, calling upon people to vote for change that only the Congress can bring.

The Gujarat BJP, meanwhile, has released an ad blaming the Congress for delaying the Narmada dam project. “Gujarat fought at every step” has a photo of Narendra Modi and blames Saifuddin Soz, Digvijay Singh and Vilasrao Deshmukh.
