Mass and special services were held in churches across Kerala on the occasion of Good Friday today.
In Kochi, Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil, Major Archbishop of the Syro Malabar church led the prayers at the St Mary's Basilica this morning, while Verapoly Archbishop Daniel Acharuparambil led the prayers at the St Francis Assisi church.
'Passion', naration of trial and crucifixion of Christ was held in many churches.
'Way of the cross', a procession by the devotees, which reflects Christ's journey to Mount Calvary before his crucifixion, will be held in the evening.
There was a heavy rush of pilgrims up the Kurusumudy shrine at Malayatoor near here, attending the 'way of the cross.' The shrine, an interantional pilgrim centre of the Catholic church, has been built on the belief that St Thomas, one of the Apostles of Christ, spent his time here in prayer during his mission to Kerala.
