Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board provides Rs 1 crore to Katra MC

Governor NN Vohra, who is also the chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) has approved a financial support of Rs 1 crore under the social responsibility activity scheme of the board to Katra Municipal Committee for undertaking various developmental works, an official spokesman said on Friday.

Katra is the base town of the Vaishno Devi shrine.

Chief executive officer, SMVDSB, Ajeet Kumar Sahu handed over a tractor with trolley, a load carrier, three water coolers, 25 dust-bins, 50 garden benches, 20 wheel barrows, 6.35 quintals of CGI sheets, 70 energy efficient street lights, besides other items to the administrator of the Katra civic body at a function held here on Friday.

The spokesperson added that 500 saplings of indigenous and ornamental trees, besides 500 tree guards are also being provided to the Katra municipality.

Sahu said the civic body has taken up works costing Rs 69.77 lakh out of the financial assistance provided by the shrine board.

"These include construction of a deep drain from Hotel Tridev to Bus Stand, Katra; construction of a footpath from Taxi Stand towards Banganga; repair and renovation of lane and drain in ward number 1 covering Main Bazaar, besides renovation of black top road at Fountain Chowk and Main Bazar, Katra," Sahu said.

He said that all these works are envisaged to be completed by June 2015.
