The deputy commissioner Kathua, Shahid Iqbal, on Sunday flagged off the 'Matdaan Mahotsav Express' from Shaheedi Chowk in Kathua town.
The bus will spread awareness about the importance of taking part in the electoral process besides making a mass appeal to people to vote.
The campaign is a part of an extensive series of activities in the last phase of "Matdaan Mahotsav" programme launched under the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP).
Matdaan Mahotsav Express has been decorated with specially designed posters, slogans, appeals and motivating couplets. It has a mobile polling booth for familiarisation of electronic voting machines (evm). Trainers have also been deputed for spreading electoral literacy.
As of now, 765 EVM-familiarisation camps have already been organised by the district administration. The bus will cover an area of 180 polling stations in the next 12 days and will also accompany the polling teams during distribution of photo voter slips.
A group of artists will also spread the message of ethical and informed voting through street plays and skits. Besides, specially designed material on ethical and informed voting will also be distributed by concerned officials.
Shahid Iqbal called upon the voters to turn up in greater number on December 20 and participate in the "festival of democracy". Social workers and prominent citizens also participated in the flag-off function.
