A 10-month-old girl was killed by her maternal grandfather at Bilahri village under Nowgawh police station of Chhatarpur district on Thursday morning.
The accused took this drastic step as the child's mother could not fulfill his demand for money. However, the accused said he had a dream in which a goddess told him that the child was inauspicious for the family. So, he killed her.
Nowgawh sub-inspector ML Yadav said the accused Kalan Raikwar picked his granddaughter Khusi while she was asleep and banged her against the floor two to three times leading to serious injuries. The child was rushed to Nowgawh government hospital where she died during treatment.
The accused Kalan Raikwar, who is a native of Raghouli village in Mahoba district of Madhya Pradesh, had come to his sister Laxmi's house in Bilahri village for Rakhshabandhan. On Wednesday evening, Raikwar asked Laxmi for some money which she refused on account of the accused's drinking habits. This angered the accused and he killed his sister's granddaughter the next morning.
