Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh alleged that both Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati gathered wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.

Addressing a public meeting at Harraiya in Basti on Saturday, he said both of them were facing court cases.

But BJP's chief ministerial candidate Kalyan Singh had a clean image and was most suitable for the post of chief minister. He said the people would vote for the BJP and Kalyan Singh would form the government, he added.

He said that the BJP won the election in Punjab, Uttarakhand and Delhi Nagar Nigam. He said that in UP, too, the BJP would get the majority.

Addressing another meeting at Khalilabad, Rajnath said that during the rule of the SP-led government, incidents of crime and corruption increased. He said that if the BJP were voted to power, it would work for the fast development of the state.

CM criticises Centre

Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav said in Basti on Saturday that the Centre neglected the non-Congress governments in various states.

Addressing an election meeting in Paikwalia village of Captainganj, he said, "Though Delhi is a small state, it gets more funds from the Centre than other states. But UP, which is bigger than Delhi, is getting inadequate funds."

Yadav further said that the state could not prosper due to shortage of funds and the Central Government's response to UP's cause was very cold.

The chief minister further said that his government had done a lot of work for people's welfare. He said if the SP returned to power, a sum of Rs 1500 would be given to all the girls who had passed high school examination for purchasing bicycles. He said that a sum of Rs 4,000 would be given to freedom fighters.
