Taking a dig at Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati on Saturday said his visits to the houses of the poor will not alleviate poverty.
“Congress yuvraj Rahul Gandhi’s visit to houses of poor, sharing food with them or night stays will not alleviate poverty. Nor can poverty be tackled by implementation of rural employment scheme,” Mayawati told an election meeting in Ballia.
Asking the people to prevent Congress and BJP from forming government at the centre, she alleged these parties were anti- people.
Accusing Congress of being responsible for naxalism and terrorism, Mayawati said “Congress failed to take concrete steps to provide jobs to unemployed youths. This is the reason country is faced with challenges like naxalism,” she charged.
The chief minister claimed the BSP government in Uttar Pradesh established the rule of law and action was taken against those violating the law and order.
“The government took strict measures to check communal tension. No one, whether he belonged to a royal family or Nehru-Gandhi family, was allowed to disturb law and order situation,” she said.
Mayawati said she herself had sent an MP, two ministers and two MLAs to jail.
