Maya sponsored arson attack: Cong

Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh slammed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister over the arson attack on UPCC chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi's house on July 15. Singh made it very clear that the party will not settle for anything less than a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the incident, saying the arson was sponsored by Mayawati and her supporters. Unhappy over Uttar Pradesh government ordering a CB-CID probe, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Saturday demanded a CBI inquiry into the recent attack and arsoning at the residence of UPCC chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

Only a CBI probe will unravel the truth behind the incident, the Congress General Secretary and in-charge of UP affairs said.

He was talking to reporters after visiting Joshi's residence in Lucknow.

The Congress leader alleged that the loot, attack and arsoning at Joshi's residence was committed "at the behest" of Chief Minister Mayawati.

The incident appeared to be a "pre-planned affair" and nothing short of a CBI probe would be able to workout the case, he added.
