Known as stickler for cleanliness, the UP Chief Minister Mayawati has ordered that she wants to see the state sparkling clean.
The CM has ordered special cleanliness drive be launched immediately in Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Agra, Meerut, Varanasi, Bareilly, Aligarh, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Saharanpur and Noida.
The district magistrates have been asked to review progress on a daily basis.
Ensuring proper water supply and making the solid waste management system (all solid waste management projects are to be completed by June 30) more efficient too are high on her priority list.
Garbage heaps in residential colonies are to be removed on priority basis and all waste lying in the open would now have to be removed to pre-marked dumping sites. Cleaning of drains, sewers too should be done by April 15. The urban development department would be the nodal agency for the campaign.
The DM's, are to prepare an action plan and send it to Alok Ranjan, principal secretary, Urban development as well as additional cabinet secretary by April 26.
Mayawati has ordered that care should be taken to ensure that people are not put to any inconvenience either because of untidy surroundings or due to unavailability of clean drinking water.
The cleanliness drives are to be carried out under the supervision of the district magistrates and additional cabinet secretary would review the progress on first and third Monday of every month.
What's more, along with the municipal corporations, Mayawati has directed that the development authorities, public works, power and police departments too would have to pitch in to ensure that her orders are carried out promptly.
