Highlight Story

A GROUP of BJP corporators on Monday presented Mayor Dr Uma Shashi Sharma with a torch (mashaal) in appreciation of her fiery crackdown on illegal hoardings, posters and banners. The Mayor recently torched scores of banners erected by a rival faction headed by PWD Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya to welcome BJP leader LK Advani on his visit to the City.

Expressing admiration for the Mayor’s action, the BJP corporators pointed out that illegal hoardings that had begun to mushroom all over not only defaced the City but also posed a threat to traffic safety.

The only way to curb this practice was to torch all types of illegal posters and banners, excepting religious ones, as soon as they were put up, they added.

Mayor-in-Council members Lalit Porwal, Anil Bindal, Sapna Chauhan, Devkrishna Sankhla and corporators Parag Lodhe, Sandeep Shekhawat and Shekhar Kibe were among those present on the occasion. Needless to say, MiC members and corporators belonging to the Vijayvargiya camp did not turn up at the event.
