NEW DIGAMBER Public School (NDPS) scraped through to the final scoring a goal just seconds before the final whistle in the Mayor Trophy inter-school football tournament organised by Krishna Public School under the aegis of Indore Blues Football Club at Nehru Stadium in Indore on Tuesday.
St George School won the second semifinal to meet NDPS in the final on Wednesday. In the first semifinal, NDPS had to struggle hard before defeating Jagdale School.
NDPS just scraped through just before the final whistle to win the match 2-1. Both the teams were 1-1 till the fag end of the match.
In the 20th minute of the first half, NDPS took the lead through their striker Rana. After trailing by 0-1 Jagdale school forwards pulled their socks up and their striker Manish equalized the score 1-1.
NDPS had good chance to take lead but they failed to convert a penalty when Rana shot the ball wide of goal post. Jagdale forwards tried their best to score a goal but in vain. Their forwards missed a sitter as Nirmal missed an open goal.
Earlier to that, NDPS was awarded penalty kick this time their player Gaurav did not make any mistake to surpass the opponent goal keeper to give their team 2-1 lead and helped his team sail in to finals.
In the second semifinal between St George School and Tender Higher Secondary School Mhow, both the teams showed their class and the match was decided via tiebreaker. St George School won 5-4 to steer into finals.
The finals would be played tomorrow at 4 pm onwards, Indore Mayor Dr Uma Shashi Sharma would be the chief guest and will distribute the prizes to winners and runners while Krishna Public School chairman Gopal Sharma would preside over the function.
