Leading distributors of photo imaging and telecom products and memory card manufacturer, MCC Group has announced its foray into branded consumer electronics with the launch of its DVD players.
"In a way coming out with our branded DVD players is a step towards getting into the consumer electronics segment. In the medium to long term plan, we aim to add more products to our brand portfolio," MCC Group Ajay Mehta said.
He, however, said the company had no plans in the immediate future to introduce new products.
"We will take a very conservative approach and gradually build our brand through the DVD and the other product, memory card," he said, adding once a brand equity was established the company would go in for more products.
He said the company would spend about Rs 2.5 crore in advertising and promotion of the brand.
Mehta, however, said MCC which is the licensed distributor of many international brands, including of JVC camcorder, would not launch products which were in direct conflict with what it distributes in India.
The company has introduced DVD players with USB port and in-built memory card facilities priced at Rs 3,800 and another sporty model with gaming facilities tagged at Rs 3,200.
"With a lot of convergence of technology taking place, we thought of coming out with a new generation of DVD players will create a new market," he said, adding the company planned to sell about 15,000 units a month.
Mehta said the company was expecting about 25 per cent of its overall revenue to come from the DVD segment in future.
