A number of commercial and residential properties in south Delhi were targeted by the demolition squad of the MCD on Tuesday. The squad took action in areas like Greater Kailash II, Sainik Farms, Chattarpur Extension, East of Kailash, Greater Kailash I, Shalimar Bagh, Tuglakhabad Extension among others.
Illegal second and third floor of a property in GK II was demolished by the building department of MCD's south zone. "Earlier the property was being used as a restaurant but the owners then started carrying out renovation but this was being done illegally. They had added two floors without getting a building plan sanctioned. After carrying out an inspection, we decided to demolish it," said a senior MCD official.
In addition to this, illegal constructions in farmhouses were also targetted. The owners there had added new floors beyond the ground floor. A total of 23 properties were demolished by the civic agency on Tuesday.
"This major demolition action drive lends a fresh perspective on unauthorised construction activities. The building department of various zones, through these such actions, has sent a strong message to unscrupulous builders, who indulge in unauthorised construction activities. They must adhere to government protocols and respect the MCD laws," said a senior MCD official.
