The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) managed to collect Rs 50,000 as property tax at a one-day collection camp at Sahara Mall on MG Road. Many shop owners and residential property owners turned up to submit the tax.
The MCG received a good response as it tried to reach the doorstep of commercial entities to collect taxes. The corporation has generated R40 crore as property tax compared to previous year’s Rs 4 crore only.
“The corporation has been taking all steps to generate revenue and provide good civic amenities to the people,” said Sudhir Rajpal, commissioner, MCG. The MCG had arranged the camp at the mall between 11am and 5pm. Joint commissioner YS Gupta, along with zonal taxation officer RN Sharma, visited the site twice to take stock of the response.
At the camp, zonal taxation officials also distributed hundreds of forms for commercial licence in advance among 180 hop owners. By the end of the day, the department got 10 applications from shop owners with deposition of Rs 2 lakh.
