IN A dramatic midnight swoop, Delhi police today arrested Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar, on an indefinite hunger strike here, took her to a hospital following deterioration in her condition.

IN A dramatic midnight swoop, Delhi police today arrested Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar, on an indefinite hunger strike here, took her to a hospital following deterioration in her condition.

Delhi police sources said Patkar, whose strike entered the eighth day today, was arrested on the charge of attempting to commit suicide and shifted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences along with two other NBA leaders Jamsingh Nargave and Bhagwati Patidar who also went on fast to express solidarity with her.

Scores of NBA activists clashed with police to resist the arrest of Patkar, who went on hunger strike to protest the decision to raise the height of Sardar Sarovar Dam, and were arrested on the charge of rioting. They were taken to Parliament Street police station.
