india Updated: Aug 13, 2009 23:34 IST

A thirty three-year-old Merchant Navy officer who has recovered from Swine flu said he was surprised that doctors did not even have an idea about the virus and kept saying that it was just normal viral fever.

"I visited the Parsi General hospital, Breach Candy hospital and also paid a visit to my family doctor but they kept saying that I had developed a normal fever and there was no need to worry," said Roko Mistry.

After Mistry returned from Singapore on August 2, he had fever and cough and was afraid that he had got Swine flu.

He got himself tested at two private hospitals, both of which said that he was just suffering from normal viral fever, he said.

However, not pleased with this, Mistry decided to get himself tested for H1N1.

"I was surprised that doctors at private hospitals did not have any idea about the symptoms of Swine flu. Also, they were not aware as to where I should get myself tested for

H1N1. Through a doctor in Breach Candy I managed to find out about Kastuba hospital. I was tested positive for H1N1 and underwent treatment and now I'm fine," he said.

Mistry got admitted on August 4 at Kasturba and had undergone treatment for H1N1 till the reports came and after he was tested positive he was there for five more days.

After which his throat swabs were taken again for testing and after he showed signs of improvement he was discharged.
