Meet on nutrition from today

WITH A view to reducing malnutrition rate and improving nutritional level a regional consultation workshop will be held here on June 9 and 10. Four States of central zone - Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan- will participate in this workshop that will be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Woman and Child Development Renuka Choudhary at 10.00 am at the Academy of Administration here.

WITH A view to reducing malnutrition rate and improving nutritional level a regional consultation workshop will be held here on June 9 and 10. Four States of central zone - Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan- will participate in this workshop that will be inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Woman and Child Development Renuka Choudhary at 10.00 am at the Academy of Administration here.

The workshop is being organised under the joint auspices of the Union Human Resources Development Ministry and the State’s Woman and Child Development Department and aims at formulating a policy for improving the present level of nutrition in the four states under the Central Region.

The Union Minister of State for Woman and Child Development Renuka Choudhary will be the chief guest at the inaugural function of the workshop. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will be the special guest on the occasion. The workshop to be held at the academy of administration will be attended by the State Minister for Woman and Child Development, Kusum
Mehdale, Minister of State’s Meena Singh.

The workshop mainly aims at discussing schemes, programmes and the successful experiment for reducing the rate of malnutrition and improving nutrition level. Delegates from four States participating at the workshop will include personnel of Woman and Child Development Departments, Public Health Engineering, Health and Family Welfare along with the representatives from the fields of primary education, panchayati raj institutions and the board of food and malnutrition.

The workshop will also be attended by the Secretary, Union Ministry for Woman and Child Development, Reva Naiyar and the Joint Secretary, Chaman Kumar, technical advisor of board of food and nutritious diet Shashi Gupta, Deputy education advisor of Union Government Dr PK Mohanti, national coordinator of breast feeding network of India, Dr Arun Gupta, Deputy Commission Health, Government of India, Dr VK Manchanda, Dr CS Pandav from AIIMS, New Delhi, Joint Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies, Government of India,  Anita Choudhary, Dr Usha Kiran from Care India along with other officers and experts.

Principal secretaries and secretaries of concerning departments along with officials of HOD level of these four States will also participate at the workshop.

Experts on the subject of nutrition will give presentations at the workshop. Similar workshops are being held in the entire country.

Earlier, such workshops were held in Bangalore, Pune and Chandigarh. On the basis of deliberations held at these workshops and following the review of the nutrition status of the national level, the process for formulating the new nutrition policy will begin.

The concluding function will be held at around 4.00 pm on June 10 with State Minister Kusum Mehdale as chief guest. Chief Secretary, Rakesh Sahani, principal secretary of women and child development department Prashant Mehta and director Kalpana Shrivastava will also be present.
