Meghalaya CM on 10-day Europe trip

Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will embark on a 10-day overseas trip to three countries in Europe beginning tomorrow. Sangma would be accompanied by Deputy chief minister Rowel Lyngdoh, parliamentary secretaries PW Khongjee and Lakmen Rymbui, Meghalaya Tourism Development Council chairman Ronnie V Lyngdoh and OSD to CM HM Shangpliang.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will embark on a 10-day overseas trip to three countries in Europe beginning from Monday.

Sangma would be accompanied by Deputy chief minister Rowel Lyngdoh, parliamentary secretaries PW Khongjee and Lakmen Rymbui, Meghalaya Tourism Development Council chairman Ronnie V Lyngdoh and OSD to CM HM Shangpliang.

The purpose of his visit is to undertake a familiarization tour as well as solicit investment from established industrial houses in the tourism, horticulture and infrastructure sectors, official sources said on Sunday.

"I am hopeful that our trip will be fruitful and that we shall return with good news for the state," Sangma said before leaving for New Delhi on Saturday.

"Our state is so rich in many aspects and we should not waste time in finding ways to utilize our resources for the best interest and benefit of the people," he said.

The delegation will arrive in London on June 22 and the following day will pay a visit to the Royal Marsdan Specialist Cancer Hospital, London to familiarise themselves with the methodology of treatment of the ailment as well as seek support for Meghalaya’s efforts to treat the disease which is alarmingly high in the state.

The following day Sangma will be felicitated in the House of Lords where he will also give a detailed presentation on Meghalaya showcasing the state in various aspects including identified areas for investment opportunities.

The Chief Minister will also visit Germany on June 26. Besides, Sangma will also visit horticulture centres in Netherlands on June 28.
