KEY WITNESSES in the Mehar Bhargava case finally appeared for the identification parade of Sunny Rawat on Wednesday. Whether they picked out Rawat as Mehar’s killer or not will be known in court as the result of the exercise was confidential. Mehar’s daughter-in-law Kavita and driver Ganga Prasad, who had identified Sunny as Mehar’s killer earlier, had not turned up for the identification parade two days back.

The witnesses reached the Lucknow District Jail for the process around 4.15 pm. Sunny was brought before them in the presence of a magistrate. Only the witnesses, magistrate and the accused were present at the time of the identification parade.

Meanwhile, Hazratganj police have still not recorded Kavita Bhargava’s statement even after one-and-a-half months of the shootout. This, despite Kavita being the main victim of eve-teasing on February 28 when Mehar was shot for objecting. Kavita has yet not revealed who, among the named accused, had teased her that night.

Meanwhile, police teams from Crime branch, Lucknow and the STF initiated fresh efforts to trace Sachin Pahadi following intervention by the new DGP Bua Singh.

The  government too, accepted the proposal of the DGP Headquarters, on Wednesday, to raise the amount offered as reward for finding Pahadi from Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000.
