MEMBERS OF Bakswaha Janpad Panchayat, who had brought a no-confidence against janpad panchayat president Abhay Jain, were allegedly manhandled by the BJP workers on Tuesday on the district collectorate premises despite tight security. Though firing in the air was also reported during the incident, no police complaint was registered till Tuesday evening in this connection.
An 11-member team had submitted a no-confidence notice to the collector on December 19 against Jain. Members, including vice-president Karan Singh, who had reached the collectorate on Tuesday to register their statements before the collector, alleged that an attempt was made to drag them out of the court room.
After recording statements of members, the collector fixed January 2 as the date for voting on the proposal. Bijawar SDO KL Jatav has been given the responsibility to convene the meeting. Later, when the members reached the premises, the BJP activists allegedly manhandled the member with the police remaining a mute spectator.
The members said they somehow saved themselves and returned to Bakswaha. Police attempted to disperse the crowd on the premises to control the situation after the firing, they said.
