Men head for saucy samba in Mumbai

A motley pack of middle-aged men looking for an evening of entertainment salivated over a gyrating bunch of barely-clad babes.

If deputy chief minister RR Patil's moral sensibilities are offended by the sight of sariclad bar girls swaying to Bollywood beats or 'social workers' smell something fishy when Carol Gracias' top slipped at the Lakme Fashion Week, we wonder what they would have to say to the scene at The Intercontinental Grand.

A motley pack of middle-aged men looking for an evening of entertainment salivated over a gyrating bunch of barely-clad babes. And an anchor in an over-glittered backless outfit, struggling to roll the twang off her tongue, exhorted the audience to "unbutton those shirts and loosen those ties."

The city's night scene has been apparently 'cleansed' of Mr Patil's pet peeves, but the nightspots clearly seem to have escaped his eye. A saucy 'samba' performance by a bevy of blondes; another blonde bunch, this time swinging to Bollywood beats; a feathered pack putting its assets on display…whew! Lest you begin to think it was a re union for out-of-work models from the erstwhile Soviet states, the event that could keep the deputy chief minister busy for awhile was, we were told, the launch of the Rocher Ellis menswear brand in the country. Rocher what?

Well, we don’t know either, but were told it has a global presence, including the US, Southeast Asia and West Asia. Couldn’t find a trace on the Net, though.

But someone sure came out happy. A news channel found the backdrop ideal to shoot a schedule of their daily party roundup.
