'Men in Mumbai are disappointing'

Highlight Story

Initially, she was considered unsuitable. But if she is being rated as one of the country’s top models, it’s because she’s tall.

“Men in Mumbai just don’t match up…they’re so disappointing,” croons Sanea Sheikh from the sidelines of a saucy calendar shoot for Elite.

“None of them are above 5 ft 10 inch. If they are tall, they are either married, engaged, or just too damn old,” huffs the 20-year-old model, who at 6 ft 1 inch is one of the tallest model.

“I don’t mind if my guy wears heels, I’m just done with short guys,” she laughs. Ramping ahead: The Mumbaiite, who grew up in Saudi Arabia and Dubai, is a final year student of Home Science at SNDT College, says, “Anyone who meets me is like ‘Hey, you’re too tall’.

When I started out fashion designers said that I was just too tall for their garments. Now, they’re getting used to me and the other tall crop of models.”

Sanea walked for Rocky S in Milan last year and later stayed on to walk the ramp for other local designers.

But her towering height comes with its share of problems. Says Sanea, “I’ve lost a number of assignments because I don’t fit into the groove of the ‘petite, bubbly, girl-next-door’ image. Now, I’m just concentrating on walking the runway.”

Adding up: Sanea states, “Finding a male model to match my height is a problem. That’s why I really love the cola ad I did with John Abraham. “He’s taller than me.”

Apart from John, who else makes her heart skip a beat? Sanea coos, “Amitabh Bachchan is the ideal man, but I don’t mind Abhishek though. If you give me his number, I’ll call him and don’t worry, I’ll take care of the rest.” Quite a tall order for this model.
