WITH THE end of cold war between Mayor Sunil Sood and MLA Arif Aqueel after Union Minister Suresh Pachauri’s mediation, the re-constitution of the Mayor-in-Council (MiC) is likely in a week. At a long meeting on Saturday, Aqueel and Sood are learnt to have discussed the MiC reconstitution.
The Mayor is said to have bowed to the changed situation, which arose after the removal of four MiC members of Aqueel camp. After the removal, the Mayor and removed MiC members had levelled allegations and counter allegations against each other in public.
Sood had alleged that their behaviour did not behove them as MiC members. On the other hand, removed MiC members Mohammed Sarwar, Amir Aqueel, Shahid Ali and Munawwar Ali had also levelled serious charges against the Mayor.
At the time of removing 4 MiC members, the Mayor was confident that he would continue with the remaining six members. However, on Saturday, Sood visited the residence of Aqueel and stayed there for about two hours talking about the MiC reconstitution. During the meeting, the Mayor also told Aqueel that these four members misbehaved with them. The MiC re-constitution is likely to be completed in a week’s time.
The four removed members are likely to be taken in the MiC. The departments of the MiC members are likely to change. Aqueel supporters are likely to get prominent departments like water works and building permission sections.
