A MiG-27 aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near Alipurduar in West Bengal on Friday evening around 8.30 pm, killing two civilians on ground though the pilot ejected safely.

An IAF spokesperson in Delhi said the pilot suffered some injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Due to the impact of the crash, some of the tin shades of nearby shanties were blown away.

Red Cross officials were at the site besides an IAF team.

A court of inquiry is underway to assess the cause of crash.
