Militant killed in encounter in Manipur

An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with police commandos in Bishenpur district of Manipur on Monday morning, official sources said.

The commandos, combing Toubul Pat area at around 4 am, was fired upon by some militants.

In the ensuing encounter, a militant was killed and some others escaped towards a nearby hill, the sources said.

One A K 47 rifles was recovered from the spot, the sources said.

In another militancy-related incident, one hand grenade was hurled at a shop by suspected militants at around 7.40 am at Khurai in Imphal East district, the sources said.The grenade failed to explode. It was later defused by bomb experts.

Over 300 people have so far been killed in militancy-related crime in Manipur this year.
