One militant has been killed in an encounter with police and security forces in south Kashmir's Pulwama district, police say.
They say the encounter started when militants lobbed grenades on a patrol party at Kawni village.
"Police had cordoned some houses in the village after receiving specific information about the presence of militants there. Militants lobbed grenades on the police party, which triggered an encounter,'' a police official told HT.
"One militant has died," the official said, adding that the militant's identity was being established.
Police say reinforcements have been sent to the area and a search operation is on.
