A militant was killed and an Army officer injured in two separate encounters in Kupwara and Baramulla districts of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said in Srinagar.

An unidentified militant was killed during a gun-battle with security forces at Dever Mirgi in Kupwara district today, the sources said.

They said an AK 56 rifle, two magazines, 52 AK rounds and one pouch were recovered from him.

In another gunfight, an Army Major was injured in Sopore area of Baramulla district, the official sources said.

The gun-battle broke out after security forces cordoned off Manz Seer village in Sopore area following a tip off about the presence of militants in the area, the sources said.

Two to three militants are believed to be holed up in the areas, they added.

Meanwhile, two suspected operatives of Hizb-ul- Mujahideen were apprehended at Kangan, the sources said.

Two hand grenades were recovered from their possession, they said.

They were identified as Shakeel Ahmad Rather and Mudasir Ali Rather of Chandpora in Harwan area of the city, they added.
