A convoy of the Election Commission’s observers in central Assam’s North Cachar Hills district was ambushed on Wednesday by militants of Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel) outfit. No one was injured in the attack, police said.
The militants fired from top of the hills as the vehicles of poll observer A P Singh and his team passed through Jungum, about 20 km from Haflong, Director General of Police G M Srivastav told reporters in Haflong.
As soon as the convoy, moving towards Unrangsho, came under fire, the security personnel fired back, he said.
No one was injured and neither were the vehicles damaged since the distance between the convoy and the militants was vast, he said.
