Militants escape after gunbattle in Poonch

Army troops recover a cache of ammunition after a brief gunbattle with militants near the Indo-Pak border in Poonch district of J&K.

Army troops recovered a cache of ammunition after a brief gunbattle with militants near the Indo-Pak border in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.

Based on a tip off, troops launched a cordon and search operation near Line of Control (LoC) in Banola-Kanati area in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district ON fRIDAY night, they said.

However, the militants managed to escape after a brief gunbattle, they said. The troops later recovered 110 ammunition rounds, 7 detonators, a telephone set and food.

A major search operation was launched to track down the militants who escaped from the spot.
