Militants on Monday afternoon attacked a police patrol by opening fire in Sopore area of Baramulla district of north Kashmir, officials said.
The ultras attacked the police team at around 4.50pm as it was heading towards the police station in Sopore, 55km from Srinagar, the officials said.
They said no one was injured in the firing by the militants who escaped from the spot taking advantage of the melee in the area.
However, Sub-Inspector Ayaz Ahmad suffered minor injuries as he fell to ground while taking an evasive action, the officials said.
No militant outfit has so far claimed responsbility for the attack.
Police assisted by other security forces launched a hunt to nab the militants.
