Unidentified gunmen injured a civilian in north Kashmir’s Sopore area on Sunday evening. In a separate incident, two civilians were injured when abandoned grenades exploded in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

According to police spokesman, the resident of Sopore was injured when militants opened fire at him from a close range. “Unknown pistol borne militants fired at Ghulam Hassan Cheechak, a resident of Yaseen Colony Arampora, Sopore, just outside his residence,” said the spokesman.

The injured civilian was admitted to a hospital where he was declared out of danger.

“Four empty cartridges of Chinese caliber were recovered from the scene of occurrence. The police have registered a case and further investigations are on,” said the spokesman.

In south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, two persons received splinter injuries when two grenades lying in a pit exploded. “The victims were clearing the pit when the devices went off,” said the eyewitnesses.
