The Assam Rifles claim to have arrested four NSCN(K) cadres reportedly involved in the deadly June 4 ambush at the remote Paraolon village in Manipur’s Chandel district, which left 18 soldiers of the Dogra Regiment dead and injured 11 others.

According to Assam Rifles, the arrested NSCN(K) cadres have been identified as Mayanglangbam Manglemba alias Touthing Ngangba arrested on July 19; self-styled Corporal Chingkhiurei Gangmei on August 4 and self-styled Private Giftson on August 19.

“Giftson revealed that he was involved in the ambush and gave information about the movement of his fellow team members,” said PRO Assam Rifles (south) in a press release on Thursday.

Acting on information provided by him, another NSCN(K) cadre identified as H Bojesh Monsang, 24, was apprehended on August 19, the release claimed.

“The apprehended accused are being handed over to the NIA for further investigation,” the press release added.

The Indian Army faced an unprecedented attack from the NSCN(K) on June 4 when personnel of the 6 Dogra regiment were attacked in an incident that left a scar on all the troops under the command of the Indian Armed Forces and the Assam Rifles.

The release added that the troops and intelligence agencies have since worked day and night to provide peace to the souls of their fellow brethren.
