A man was allegedly kidnapped by suspected militants during the night on Thursday in north Kashmir's Sopore town, some 55 km from Srinagar.

Police on Friday said that a land broker, Mushtaq Ahmad Changa (35), was kidnapped from his house in Arampora by unidentified gunmen dressed as policemen.

"His wife Kulsooma told the police that a group of gunmen barged into their house during the intervening night of January 29-30 and kidnapped her husband," said a police spokesperson.

Sopore police station in-charge superintendent of police (SP) Abdul Qayoom, said a group of six militants kidnapped Changa from his house around midnight.

"We have started investigations and might be able to crack the case soon," he added.

The family, however, said they were not satisfied with the investigation.

"The militants barged into the house and beat him up before taking him with them," his wife Kulsoom was quoted by local media. The family said the militants spoke local Kashmiri language as well as Urdu.
