A National Conference worker was shot dead by suspected militants in Srinagar’s Batamaloo area on Saturday. On December 11, militants had made an attempt on the life of rural development minister Ali Mohammad Sagar.
“At 9.20 am, some unidentified militants fired at Bashir Ahmed Dar, 40, a resident of Dobi Mohalla, Batamaloo, near his shop,” said a police officer. Dar’s father, Muhammad Jamal Dar, a block president of the NC, had been killed by militants in 1996.
A little known militant group, Islamic Movement of Kashmir, claimed responsibility for the killing.
