The Pakistan dream of Kashmir militants has gone bust. Those who moved there are now eager to return, just to earn a decent living. This was what former militant Liyaquat Ali Shah, who returned to his village in Kupwara, had to say.

“While militants work as labourers, their bosses zoom around in expensive cars. Militant leaders are living in palatial houses, the common militant braves harsh winters in tents. Everybody wants to come back,” said Shah, a former Hizbul Mujahideen operative, who was arrested while coming to India via Nepal in March. An alternative route would help, since the Nepal route is too expensive, he added.

Shah also accused the Delhi Police of attempting to frame him in a weapons recovery case.
