Minister accuses cabinet colleague of raping minor

india Updated: Feb 04, 2009 10:16 IST

Termed a smuggler by Goa Tourism Minister Francisco alias Mickky Pacheco, Public Works Department Minister Churchill Alemao on Tuesday alleged Pacheco had raped a minor girl nearly a decade ago and then destroyed the relevant documents in the police records.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the winter session of the state assembly, Alemao said the incident occurred at Monte Hill in Margoa ten years ago and a case had been registered at the time.

"The 14-year-old girl was a poor fisherwoman, who had complained to me after the incident. I had asked the Margao police to register a complaint, but the papers are now missing from the police station," he said.

Pacheco, of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), On Monday said he would approach Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and the Supreme Court for Alemao's ouster from the cabinet because of "his criminal history". Alemao was listed a pronounced smuggler as per the Customs department's official blacklist, Pacheco claimed.

The battle between the two ministers in the Kamat-led Congress-Nationalist Congress Party coalition government has taken center-stage in the five day winter session, in the absence of fireworks from the opposition benches occupied by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
