Andhra Pradesh minister for endowments Jupalli Krishna Rao on Thursday became the first minister to resign in support of the proposed state of Telangana. However, his decision was taken in a sudden burst of anger over an MP’s comment.

On Thursday, what precipitated his action was a taunt by a Congress MP from the coastal Andhra region, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, who said ministers from Telangana could not stay out of power “for even an hour”.

Later, he called on chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy in the Assembly and handed him a copy of the resignation letter.
