Minor?s molestation flares up Dewas

COMMUNAL TENSION has been reported in Haatpipliya and Chapra in Dewas district after a man from a particular community allegedly molested an 8-year-old girl in Haatpipliya on Wednesday.

According to police sources, the accused, aged around 40, was arrested soon after the incident and brought to the police station. However, a large number of activists belonging to Hindu outfits gheraoed the police station demanding that the accused be handed over to them. When the police refused, they started venting their ire by throwing stones at shops and houses of members of a particular community.

There was tension in the area as the police drove away the mob. They overturned a number of handcarts as they fled from the police station.

From Haatpipliya the arson spread to Chapra, which is around 8 km away. Here also the mob set ablaze a few shops belonging to members of a particular community, and also set fire to a motorcycle and a four-wheeler. According to eyewitness, the police had to fire in the air to disperse the crowd, though the police have not confirmed that.

The miscreants fled as soon as the police, including SP I P Kulshestra and Collector Uma Kant Rao, reached the spot. However, soon after that there was trouble in village Shyampur where houses of members of a particular community were damaged.

The series of attacks angered the members of the opposing community and there was danger of the situation getting out of hand.

Apart from the SP and Collector, Higher Education Minister and Dewas MLA Tukojirao Puar also rushed to the spot and talked to the people from both sides.SP I P Kulshrestha said that the situation was now completely under control.

He said they were trying to identify the miscreants and take action against them. He said there have been no major injuries in any of the incidents.DIG Ujjain Range Ajay Sharma is also learnt to have rushed to the troubled spot to monitor the situation.
