An inquiry into a case of alleged brutality with a minor in police custody in Rewa district revealed that the victim’s private part was burnt and subjected to electric shock, said police sources.

However, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Rewa, Ashutosh Pandey, who has been appointed as the inquiry officer, is yet to submit the report.

Sources said Pandey recorded statements of policemen and in-charge of Baikunthpur police station, where incident occurred on Saturday. In their statements, few policemen have confirmed that the minor was beaten up brutally and his private part was harmed.

“The primary investigation suggests that two minors who were detained on charges of a theft incident were tortured in police custody and the private part of one of the detainees was burnt by few policemen who were interrogating them,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity.

DSP Pandey said, “A fair investigation has been conducted. I am compiling the investigation and will submit the report soon.” He said the medico legal case (MLC) report was yet to be obtained from the doctor who had carried out a medical check-up before the minors were produced in the court.

The incident had occurred on November 29 at Baikunthpur police station, when two minors were detained on charges of theft. The incident came to light only after they were released on November 2 and one of them informed his family about the incident. His relatives took him to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

SP Akash Jindal said, “Let the inquiry report be submitted, strict action would be taken against the policemen who will be held responsible for the incident.”
