THE MISROD police have arrested a man for allegedly crushing to death one, Mangal Singh, whose body was found near Misrod on the night intervening April 22 and 23.

Initially the police had suspected it was a mishap but the fact that the body was lying at a distance of around 35 feet from an overturned jeep raised suspicion because no amount of push in an accident could have thrown the body so far from the vehicle.

Addressing a press conference, Superintendent of Police Anant Kumar Singh on Friday said the murder was a result of illicit relations between the accused, Ramsundar Mishra, 46 and the deceased’s wife. The jeep that was involved in the incident belonged to a school where the accused was a driver.

Two eyewitnesses who had passed the road while on their way to Mandideep and had found Mangal Singh lying on the spot told police that they had spoken to him and he told them that he was run over by his friend.

The duo had, however, moved ahead as they were in a hurry. During investigations the police found Mangal Singh’s wife worked as a sanitation worker in the school where the jeep driver had got in touch with her and they had illicit relations. He often came to the couple’s house in Singh’s absence.

The latter had also got air of the matter and had a row with his wife recently. Singh was already too dejected because he had no child.

Mishra along with his friend, Jaikishor, guard with the same school, who also had a past grudge with Singh, coaxed the latter that they would get him remarried to another girl.

Eager to see the girl, he agreed to accompany them to the particular village. The accused took him in the jeep and near Bangrasia asked him to get down.

They reversed the jeep and tried to crush him but the wheels just ran over his feet, police said. However, the duo went ahead and returned sometime later to finally crush him to death, police said. Mishra was arrested and he confessed the crime. The hunt is on for the co-accused.
