Two days after 85-year-old Asma Khan mysteriously went missing from near Thane railway station, her family found her on Friday.
Her son found her sitting outside the Thane mental hospital.
Asma came to Mumbai with her husband Yahiya Khan (90) after 10 years, to meet her family in Rabodi.
Asma and her husband started from Gaya in Bihar on Tuesday and reached Kalyan a day later.
The couple came to Thane station in a local train and hired an autorickshaw to their house in Rabodi.
Just as the autorickshaw started, Yahiya realised that Asma was not with him. Yahiya searched for her for some time before returning home.
“As soon as my grandfather came home and narrated the incident, my parents went to Thane station looking for her but we could not find her,” said Kahkasha Khan, Asma’s granddaughter.
Later, the family reported the case at different police stations in Thane and Kalyan.
Normally, in cases of missing persons, the police wait for some time before actually registering a case.
The police on Thursday registered a complaint and alerted police stations in and around Thane. “Despite having lodged a missing person’s complaint, we continued looking for her,” said Kahkasha.
On Friday, when Asma’s son, Rafiq, set out from home looking for his mother. On a sudden impulse, he decided to go and check near the mental hospital. His intuition proved right as Asma was sitting outside the hospital.
“When I was near the mental hospital, I saw my mother sitting nearby,” said Rafiq. “She is not saying anything. She has only told us that she spent the two nights in a house nearby. During the day, she used to sit outside the hospital.”
