A 27-year-old woman from Mizoram was found dead with multiple stab wounds at a rented flat in south Delhi’s Munirka Thursday night.

The victim — Juliet Zonunmawi — worked at a Gurgaon-based call centre and was living in Delhi for the past five years. Her alleged boyfriend Virendra Singh was present at the flat when she died, police sources said.

Eyewitnesses said Singh rushed to neighbouring flats around 10pm Thursday after an evening of partying with friends and told them that an inebriated Juliet had stabbed herself.

“The neighbours then called the house owners, who notified the police,” said a police officer.

The police have registered a case of murder but aren’t sure of the sequence of events that led to Juliet’s death.

Police sources suspect Singh — a resident of Haldwani in Uttarakhand — murdered the woman and cooked up a story to mislead the police.

By the time the police reached the flat, Juliet had been taken to a nearby hospital, from where she was referred to Safdarjung Hospital. She was pronounced dead on arrival.

“When officers reached the spot, they saw blood-ridden footprints on the flat’s entrance and on the stairs. They also recovered a knife with blood stains on it,” added the officer.

The police officials are also probing Singh’s background and any history of criminal activity. Juliet’s relatives and friends are likely to reach the spot by Saturday afternoon.
