IN YET another incident of attack on police officers, Samajwadi Party MLA from Jasrana Ramvir Singh Yadav and supporters beat up Ferozabad superintendent of police Amitabh Thakur on Wednesday night.
Later Thakur lodged an FIR against the MLA, his two relatives, driver and a supporter in the Eka police station under sections 147,148, 332, 353, 504 and 506 IPC. He also suspended seven police constables deputed for the MLA’s security.
According to reports, PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav was to visit Paidath, native village of Ramvir Yadav, on Thursday to participate in a programme. On Wednesday, Thakur along with district magistrate Sanyukta Samthdar visited Paidath to review the security arrangements. Ramvir Yadav along with his family members and supporters were present in a newly constructed building. Both the DM and the SP decided to take a look at the rooms. As they were doing so, Yadav and his men came and misbehaved with the SP over transfer of a police station in-charge.
In his report submitted to the state government, Thakur said the MLA relatives Pravindra Singh, Rajiv Yadav, driver Dinesh and supporter Ashok Yadav abused him and also threatened him with dire consequences. When Thakur objected to their language, he was pushed and manhandled. The SP had taste of the police way of working when the seven constables deputed in the security of Yadav took the side of the MLA and threatened Thakur’s security staff. As the SP and his security were outnumbered, they decided to flee.
On way to Ferozabad, Thakur stopped at Eka police station to lodge an FIR. But he was in for a shock when the in-charge of the police station Hempal refused to lodge an FIR against the MLA. It was only after much persuasion that Hempal relented.
According to sources, a few days back Thakur had sent in-charge of Jasran police station VK Trivedi to lines on the charge of dereliction of duty. The move infuriated Yadav, who applied pressure on the SP to depute Trivedi again at the same police station. He told Thakur about his close relationship with the nephew of the chief minister, but Thakur refused to oblige him.
Sources said three days back some miscreants had kidnapped a jeweller from Padan town located under Jasrana police station. Angry over slackness of police, the local people had organised a road blockade and a demonstration at the police station. They were demanding action against the in-charge of the police station. It was under these circumstances that Thakur had transferred Trivedi to police lines.
In his letter to the state government, Thakur has demanded investigation into the case by a police officer of another district.
