A caretaker of the irrigation department guest house on Old Delhi Road was allegedly beaten up by an MLA’s driver and three security personnel, the police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday night when the accused came to the guest house and asked for a room to check in.
The accused were drunk and they started beating up the caretaker, Pyare Lal, after he told them that all the rooms were occupied. They introduced themselves as security personnel of Anita Yadav, MLA from Ateli constituency in Haryana.
“The accused asked Pyare Lal to open a room for them but he refused as there was no room vacant in the house,” said a senior police officer.
“Their driver pulled Pyare Lal by his collar and thrashed him. The four of them continued to beat him up till a security guard of the guest house came to rescue him,” he added.
Those staying at the guest house complex rushed towards the office.
When the four men saw people coming towards them, they fled in their car. Pyare Lal was rushed to the Civil Hospital and later he was referred to a hospital in Delhi.
ASI of Civil Lines police station, Tota Ram, said, “We have registered the case and are conducting investigation.” The MLA could not be reached for comments.
