Supporters of Janata Dal-United MLA from Mokama, Anant Singh allegedly attempted to grab the property of a jewellery shop located on Frazer Road in Patna.
Navin Kumar, an employee of the showroom, lodged a complaint with the Kotwali police station on Sunday, alleging that at least eight supporters of the MLA vandalised the showroom and its equipment. When the shop staff objected, the MLA’s men reportedly abused them. They left only after the police arrived, the complaint said.
“The staff are frightened following Sunday’s incident,” Kumar said. He said this was not the first attack on the showroom as earlier too, valuables had been stolen. A complaint was lodged in this connection too.
Kumar demanded security for the staff of the showroom as they apprehended threat to their lives from the politician.
Earlier, the Patna High Court, while disposing of a petition filed on behalf of the jewellery shop on February 4, had directed the sub-divisional officer to provide security to the shop owner as well as his business centre.
Police station house officer Mundrika Prasad confirmed that a complaint had been received from an employee of the shop. Further investigation is on, he said.
Despite repeated attempts, the MLA could not be contacted for comment.
